DAINTREE RAINFOREST

The only place on Earth where two World Heritage Areas unite!  Between the Daintree and Bloomfield Rivers, the biological diversity of the world's oldest rainforest, interfacing through its mangrove communities with the Great Barrier Reef, is globally unparalleled.

The coincidence of the Daintree Rainforest and Great Barrier Reef, both irreplaceable sources of life and inspiration, is an astonishing legacy of cultural and natural heritage.  Individually superlative, but taken together - Nature's Masterpiece!

Heritage is our legacy from the past, what we live with today and what we pass on to future generations.  In recognition of the exceptional universal importance of both sites, World Heritage listing has been ratified to ensure the protection and preservation of the outstanding values to humanity in terms of cultural and natural heritage.

A custodial community of about 500 inhabitants have the awesome responsibility of tending to the protection of Nature's Masterpiece, learning its myriad secrets and transmitting its values to future generations.  Almost every aspect of rainforest life differs from other communities throughout Australia and around the World.  Even the production and management of electricity is unique, being the only community legislated off the grid for the stated purpose of protecting the exceptional ecological values of the World Heritage rainforest.

An outstanding opportunity exists for responsible travellers to provide ecotourism partnership support to the conservation community, for what could well become a world-leader in genuine sustainability.
